Interview with Favian Ee, the Artist Behind “John Wesley: The World, My Parish”

Jan 2023 Newsletter #2

Hi Reader!

This month, I have the privilege of interviewing a personal friend of mine who has recently published a graphic novel on John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church.

I don't know about you, but I had a secret dream of becoming an artist when I was young. I love drawing comics and have even created my own Doraemon manga at the age of 10. Sadly, I lost it by the time I grew up.

Anyway, this email isn't about me.

This interview with Favian Ee excites me because:

1) It is not an easy feat to get a book published. Many things came together in order for it to happen. Its publication is a testimony to God's providence.

2) Favian is an artist who followed his calling. If you have the gift of artistic expressions, you can glean much insights from his personal journey.

3) It shows the multi-faceted aspects of following God's call. One does not necessarily need to enter full-time ministry to be considered called by God. In fact, one of the earliest 'job assignments' that God gave to any individual was to Bezalel, a giffted craftsman who is to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze! (Exodus 31:4). So, celebrating the gift and calling of the artist is a very biblical thing to do.

Hey Reader, It’s been a while — more than a month actually, and I just want to say, thank you for still being here. I know inboxes get busy, and I genuinely appreciate you opening this one. So — how was your June? For me, it was a good one. The school holidays meant a little more breathing room, and my family and I managed to get away for a bit of travel together. It’s the kind of thing I don’t take for granted — those slower mornings, a change of scenery, real conversations with my kids that...

Hi Reader, Happy new year!I know what you’re probably thinking: “Why would anyone willingly take a pay cut to start a new year?” On January 1st, 2026, I officially stepped down from my senior teacher position. The result? A $2,000 monthly pay cut. And honestly, when I first made this decision, I felt kinda diminished as a person For years, I had unknowingly tied my identity to that title. When it changed, something inside me shifted uncomfortably. It was a humbling moment that forced me to...
